Unit-3-; Core Skills in Print Media

 Precis

A precis is like making a short, summarized version of a big article or passage. You read the whole thing carefully and then write down the main points in a shorter way. It's important because it helps to understand the main ideas without having to read everything in detail.

Paragraph

A paragraph is like a small section in a big piece of writing. It talks about just one idea or topic. In a paragraph, there's usually a main sentence that tells you what it's about, then a few other sentences that explain or support that main idea, and finally, a sentence that wraps it up neatly.

Essay

An essay is a structured piece of writing where you explore one main idea or topic. It's like telling a story but with facts and arguments. Usually, it starts with an introduction that introduces the topic, then there are paragraphs in the middle where you discuss different points, and finally, there's a conclusion that sums up what you've said.

Parts of a News Report

A news report is like a story about something that happened recently. It has different parts like the headline, which tells you what the story is about, the lead which gives you the most important details first, and the body where you find more information and quotes from people involved.

5Ws

The 5Ws are simple questions that help you understand a news story better: Who, What, When, Where, and Why. They tell you who was involved, what happened, when and where it happened, and why it's important.

Headline Writing

A headline is like a short title for a news story. It should grab your attention and tell you what the story is about in just a few words. Writing a good headline is important because it's the first thing people see and can make them want to read more.

Types of Leads

The lead is the first part of a news story. There are different types of leads, like the summary lead which gives you the main point right away, the delayed lead which teases you with a bit of information before revealing more, and the anecdotal lead which starts with a little story to draw you in.

Report Writing

Report writing is like putting together all the important information about something that happened and presenting it in a clear and organized way. It involves doing research, talking to people, and writing in a way that's easy for others to understand. It's important for journalists to get the facts right and tell the story accurately.
